Our Curriculum

Music (both indoors and outdoors) is instrumental to the development of creativity and fine motor skills. Music classes allow children to explore and discover how to play various instruments, including violins, drums, keyboards, and xylophones. In addition to developing rhythm and fine motor skills, children learn to sing and play songs from various genres and cultures. Art class provides many exciting creative experiences to develop each child's talents. Age-appropriate projects enable children to experiment with color, shape, and texture as they learn about artists throughout history. At the Children's Center, we believe art, music, and literature are essential to children's growth, well-being, and ability to express themselves. In addition to the many exceptional teachers, we are privileged to have a stocked library for children to check out books, a music instructor, and an art teacher. At BMCC, teachers facilitate learning through group and independent activities that engage children's hearts and minds. Whether observing play, encouraging curiosity by asking questions, or imparting wisdom through modeling, our teachers invite children to think, grow, play, build friendships, and recognize that they are vital community members.
BMCC encourages the children to explore the theory of "loose parts." These materials can be moved, carried, combined, redesigned, lined up, taken apart, and put back together in multiple ways. The Children's Center uses two curriculums founded on decades of research and demonstrated results. Children through age three are taught via Creative Curriculum, an emergent program that encourages children to explore ideas and personal interests. Four and five-year-olds are taught via a literacy-rich theme-based curriculum, which focuses on developing literacy and preparing children for kindergarten.
BMCC understands the connection between developing fine motor skills in early life and later success in math, science, and reading. Teachers are trained to provide a variety of "invitations to learn" areas in the classroom while keeping this purposeful play fun and engaging! The Children's Center is delighted to be recognized by 'The Tennessee Star-Quality Child Care Program,' the highest rating a licensed child care program can obtain. As the standard-bearers in Tennessee for high-quality child development, we offer your children the expertise of a dedicated team of administrators and teachers. Our strictly enforced teacher/student ratios mean your children receive the individual attention they need and deserve. This also allows us to introduce materials and techniques that are new & fun in small groups. From sewing & felting to gardening and music, we use our low teacher/student ratios as an opportunity to provide additional extracurricular activities. Let's play outside! BMCC's outside playscape is extremely important to our children's day. From bikes and rock climbing to sensory tables and mud/sandboxes, the Preschool Playscape always strives to provide a multi-faceted outdoor experience.
BMCC's infants & early toddlers enjoy exploring our Patio Playscape. Equipped with various gross motor activities, BMCC's youngest children blow bubbles, experience water play, make music & grow their vegetables in this space.
Older toddlers play in an additional outdoor playscape that includes water play, sand and mud sensory play, a learning playground, and more!
